Sonos 27 OS Announced With ChatGPT Integration; Sonos Play Ultra India Launch on September 8

Sonos has announced its next-generation audio operating system, called Sonos 27. The new platform brings a redesigned companion app, AI-powered features and new ways for users to control and move audio between Sonos devices. The company has also confirmed the India launch of the Sonos Play Ultra, while the new Sonos Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra will arrive at a later date.

Sonos 27: What’s New?

According to Sonos, the new operating system expands its connected audio platform with support for multiple AI assistants and agents. One of the main additions is Sonos 27voice, the company’s own voice assistant designed around music discovery, listening preferences and mood-based recommendations.

Another feature is Sonos 27mcp, which allows external AI assistants and agents to connect with Sonos systems. The platform will support ChatGPT, allowing users to ask ChatGPT to play music in different parts of their home directly from a phone or computer without leaving the conversation.

Sonos has also previewed Custom Agents. This feature will let users create personal agents with their own AI model, personality and voice. The company says this could provide more personalised ways of interacting with a Sonos audio system.

The new Sonos Fabric system is designed to help Sonos products understand their surroundings and positioning. It enables features such as headphone linking, which connects the Sonos Ace Ultra with a Sonos speaker system. Initially offered as an Early Access feature, it will allow users to move audio between nearby speakers and headphones.

Sonos Positioning Technology uses high-frequency sound to identify where a speaker is located. The system can then adjust the speaker’s role based on its position, supporting features such as portable surround sound.

Sonos Play Ultra India Launch

Alongside Sonos 27, the company has confirmed the India availability of the Sonos Play Ultra. It is a portable speaker that can connect to other Sonos products over Wi-Fi for multi-room audio and stereo pairing. It can also be used with a dedicated Charging Base.

The speaker gets a removable utility loop, up to 24 hours of battery life and an IP67-rated design. The Sonos Play Ultra will be available in India from September 8.

The Sonos Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra will also join the company’s flagship range in India. However, their launch dates and prices have not been announced yet.
