Samsung Galaxy A27 Review: A Good Mid-Range Phone With Some Downsides

Samsung’s Galaxy A27 was initially launched in India at Rs. 28,999 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. However, two price revisions have pushed its starting price to Rs. 33,999. The higher price puts the Samsung Galaxy A27 in a more competitive segment, where buyers have several phones offering faster hardware and better displays.

Samsung Galaxy A27 Design: Premium Looks

The Samsung Galaxy A27 has a cleaner design than its predecessor. The waterdrop notch has been replaced by a hole-punch cutout, giving the phone a more modern appearance. The handset measures 162.4 x 78.2 x 7.8mm and weighs 200g.

The polycarbonate frame has a slight raised section around the power and volume buttons. The power key also doubles as the fingerprint sensor. While the overall build feels solid, the IP64 rating is a step down from the Galaxy A26’s IP67 protection. The phone can handle splashes but is not designed for immersion in water.

Samsung Galaxy A27 Display: Good Indoors

The Galaxy A27 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full-HD+ resolution. Colours look vibrant in the default Vivid mode, while Natural mode offers a more balanced appearance. Viewing angles are also good.

The main weakness is outdoor visibility. The screen is comfortable to use indoors but can be difficult to see under direct sunlight. The display supports Widevine L1 for Full-HD streaming, although HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are not supported.

Samsung Galaxy A27 Software and Performance

The phone runs Android 16 with Samsung’s One UI 8.5. Samsung has promised six years of OS updates and six years of security updates, which is one of the phone’s stronger points.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor provides enough performance for everyday tasks, social media and casual gaming. However, occasional stuttering can be noticed when switching between apps. Gaming also causes the phone to warm up, and performance can drop during longer sessions.

The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model is priced at Rs. 38,999. Storage can be expanded using a microSD card, although the hybrid SIM slot means users have to choose between a second SIM and expandable storage.

Samsung Galaxy A27 Cameras

The Galaxy A27 has a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS, along with a 5-megapixel ultrawide and 2-megapixel macro camera. There is also a 12-megapixel selfie camera.

The main camera is the most useful of the three, while the ultrawide and macro cameras feel less impressive. The downgrade in sensor specifications compared with the previous generation is noticeable, particularly in the ultrawide camera.

Samsung Galaxy A27 Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy A27 offers a premium-looking design, a good AMOLED display, long software support and dependable everyday performance. However, its recent price increase makes the phone harder to recommend. At Rs. 33,999, competitors offer stronger processors and better displays.
