New MacBook Pro Could Be Significantly Lighter With OLED Display and Touchscreen: Report

Apple is reportedly working on a major redesign for its upcoming MacBook Pro models. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new MacBook Pro could be significantly lighter and thinner than the current-generation models. The laptop is also expected to bring some major changes, including an OLED display and touchscreen support.

Apple is said to be reworking the internal layout of the MacBook Pro by making some components smaller and rearranging them. This could help reduce the overall weight, particularly on the larger 16-inch model. The current 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Max chip weighs around 2.15kg.

The redesigned MacBook Pro is also expected to be the first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen. Earlier reports have suggested that Apple could use an OLED panel and introduce a Dynamic Island-style element.

The upcoming laptop may run a version of macOS designed to support touch input and other new hardware features. Reports suggest Apple could launch the redesigned MacBook Pro as early as next month, although the company has not confirmed a launch date.

The new models are reportedly expected to use existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, while Apple works on its next-generation M7 processors.
