Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Series Reaches End of Software Support After Five Years

Samsung has officially ended software support for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, around five years after the two smartwatches were launched. The company has removed both models from its security update schedule, meaning owners should not expect any further security patches or major software updates.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series was launched in August 2021 and marked an important change for Samsung. These were the first Galaxy Watches to move from the company’s Tizen platform to Wear OS, following Samsung’s collaboration with Google. The switch also introduced Samsung’s One UI Watch interface on top of Wear OS.

Over the years, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic received several major software upgrades. The watches started with Wear OS 3.5 and One UI Watch 4.5, followed by Wear OS 4 with One UI 5 Watch. Samsung later updated them to Wear OS 5 and One UI 6 Watch, and eventually to Wear OS 6 with One UI Watch 8.

With the September 2026 security update schedule, the two watches are no longer listed for regular security maintenance. Their last security update arrived in August. Existing owners can continue using the watches with their current software, but newly discovered security vulnerabilities will no longer receive official patches.

Samsung’s current quarterly security support list starts with the Galaxy Watch 5 series, including its 40mm and 44mm models and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The Galaxy Watch FE also remains supported.

Interestingly, the Galaxy Watch FE uses hardware similar to the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4, including the Exynos W920 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Samsung had already ended support for its remaining Tizen-based watches in September 2025. The company now provides up to five years of software and security updates for its newer smartwatch models.
